As reported in an exclusive by The Daily Mail, Chelsea are set to spend big in January and their top target is Paris Saint-Germain's star midfielder Marco Verratti.

What's the word?

Chelsea's midfield is already stacked full of talent but Antonio Conte seemingly wants more. With the imminent departure of Oscar, Chelsea have plenty of money to invest into the squad.

According to The Mail, the man at the top of their list is Marco Verratti. Antonio Conte is a big fan and the hierarchy at Stamford Bridge are keen to support the manager that's guided them to the top of the league.

The Italian midfielder is a key part of that Paris Saint-Germain side and The Mail reckon it could cost over £30m to bring him to London given that his current contract runs to 2021.

It's money that Chelsea no doubt have, so if they want him badly, a deal could be done that suits all parties.

Why Verratti?

Antonio Conte is very familiar with his January target. The midfielder played for the Chelsea manager back when he was Italy boss. If the signing does go through, Blues fans can take confidence in the fact the manager knows exactly what he's getting.

Despite being just 24, the Italian international has vast experience, making close to 250 professional appearances across his career. He's been at PSG for over 4 years and has already won 9 major trophies with the club.

Known primarily for his defensive contribution to the midfield, he has plenty of ability on the ball too and can often be found driving forward with the ball at his feet.

That fits well into Chelsea's 3-4-3 system right now and he'd be an excellent partner for N'Golo Kante or Nemanja Matic.

It's set to be a busy window in the Premier League with big money deals expected for players going in and out of the league. This is one to watch very closely.
