Conte makes talented box-to-box midfielder top Chelsea target (not Pogba, Vidal or Nainggolan)

Antonio Conte wants Blaise Matuidi to become one of his first major Chelsea signings if he takes over at Stamford Bridge, according to reports from Le 10 Sport.

The Italy coach looks set to succeed Guus Hiddink this summer, once his EURO 2016 duties with the Azzurri have concluded, with rumours suggesting that a deal is close to being finalised.

Since initial speculation of Conte heading to Chelsea, there have been links with a host of midfield targets, with the likes of Arturo Vidal, Radja Nainggolan and Paul Pogba having been mentioned, but reports claim that the ex-Juventus coach’s major target is Paris Saint-Germain’s Matuidi.

It’s understood that he’s made his feelings known in discussions with Blues officials and that a tentative approach has been made to PSG.

The Parisians are, however, reluctant to sell, and with the Ligue 1 champions backed by wealthy Qatari owners, it may take a huge offer to sway their stance.
