Conte provides frosty response to Chelsea’s Champions League failure, fans react

Chelsea had an opportunity to end their season on a high by qualifying for the Champions League.

The odds were not in their favour, with Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool in better positions heading into the final two games of the campaign.

The Blues knew that if they defeated Huddersfield Town and Newcastle United, they would have a decent chance of finishing inside the top four.

However, their potential progression did not rest in their own hands, making it more difficult to force into contention.

Chelsea needed Liverpool and Tottenham to drop points due to the Blues’ inferior goal difference.

In the end, though, Conte’s side shot themselves in the foot as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Huddersfield and were beaten 3-0 on the final day of the campaign against the Magpies at St James’ Park.

After the final whistle, when the manager was asked about Chelsea’s inability to finish inside the top four, he seemed to direct his frustration at the club itself.

Chelsea supporters were not impressed, and many have since called for Conte to be sacked, which shows how much things have changed following last season’s title win.
