Chelsea striker Diego Costa is associated with many things; on-pitch fisticuffs, touchline spats with Jose Mourinho, all-round wind up-merchantry and having an incredibly ugly face; but speaking fluent Chinese is not one of them.
Yet, perhaps due to the incredible rise of the Chinese Super League over the last few months – which smashed it’s domestic record fee three times during the recent transfer window as the likes of former Arsenal star Gervinho, Inter Milan’s Fredy Guarin, Atletico Madrid striker Jackson Martinez, PSG forward Ezequiel Lavezzi, Shakhtar Donetsk attacker Alex Teixeira and Chelsea midfielder Ramires unexpectedly jumped ship to the Far East – we suddenly find ourselves in the surreal situation of watching the Spain international attempt the Chinese lingo.
There’s something about Costa’s very large and very intimidating face, speaking a language that requires entirely different vocal patterns to its European counterparts – not to mention the fact we’ve rarely heard him actually speak English anyway – that makes this video so mindboggling. Enjoy.
