Courtois is a quality goalkeeper who should regain his form under a new manager

Thibaut Courtois has been in contact with Paris Saint Germain over a summer move, as per French outlet RMC Sport, after a poor season at Stamford Bridge.

However, despite the uncertainty over the managerial situation, Chelsea must do all they can to keep a man who is one of the world’s top goalkeepers when he’s on top of his game.

What’s the story, then?

The report states that Courtois is interested by the project on offer in Paris and the fact that his contract expires in June 2019 makes him an attractive prospect for the French giants.

It also says that talks have already begun between Courtois and the club but that Chelsea are not willing to do a deal – they want to keep the man valued at £54m by Transfermarkt.

Apparently, even if that means that they will lose him for free in 2019 and annoy him in the meantime, that’s what they will do.

They have to keep him

Courtois has endured a poor season – and it should be pointed out that he is not the only one at Stamford Bridge – which has seen him become more and more unpopular with the Blues fans.

Despite that, the fact remains that he is an elite goalkeeper and at 25, he is only going to get better. He is commanding, agile and well-suited to the Premier League.

It would be tough to get an upgrade on the Belgian – maybe Jan Oblak – but the fact that PSG have joined Real Madrid in the hunt for his signature tells you all you need to know about his undoubted quality.

Chelsea will expect to have a new manager by the opening day of next season and whoever it is will doubtless be unimpressed if Courtois is immediately sold from under his nose.
