The Blues snapped up the Egypt international in January 2014, after he’d lifted consecutive Swiss Super League titles with FC Basel.
But the 24-year-old went on to make just 13 Premier League appearances for the Blues, finding himself a peripheral figure in Jose Mourinho’s plans and loaned out to Fiorentina a year later.
That was followed by an 18-month loan spell with Roma, in which the speedy winger bagged 20 goals in 50 Serie A appearances – including 14 strikes in the Italian top flight last season.
Salah has been expected to move to the Stadio Olimpico permanently for some time, but the transfer has now been officially announced by the west London club.
That makes Salah Chelsea’s 16th departure of the summer, with 15 more players leaving Stamford Bridge either on loan or permanently.
The Blues have wished Salah well for the future.
