Chelsea Manager Roberto Di Matteo has instantly dispelled suggestions that his side are set for another winter slump following their 3-2 defeat to Manchester United.
The European Champions had made an unbeaten start to the season, but that record disappeared yesterday as the hosts lost in controversial fashion at Stamford Bridge.
They remain top of the Premier League by just one point with Manchester United and Manchester City firmly hanging on their coattails.
Chelsea also suffered a midweek defeat at the hands of Shaktar Donetsk in the Champions League and this has struck fears into the fans that their team is set for a traditional mid-season blip.
Di Matteo was quick to dispel this, pointing to his side coming back from 2-0 down before being reduced to nine men.
He told Sky Sports: “I didn’t see any struggle in our team. We know we have a good and strong team. We just have to ride this moment.”
The Blues have no time to mull over their latest defeat as they are set to face the same opponents on Wednesday night in the Capital One Cup.
Despite being seemingly embroiled in a saga over some of the decisions and language used by referee Mark Clattenburg, the Italian manager was quick to focus upon matters in hand.
The Chelsea boss reiterated post-match, “We have to regroup. Obviously, we are going to have a few players missing. We played with nine men. We had a long trip to Ukraine.”
Wednesday night should give some of the Chelsea fringe players an opportunity to shine, with the squad stretched to its limit, trying to maintain a challenge both domestically and on the European front.
