Expert beleives struggling Chelsea could still sign huge French international star

Chelsea’s struggling season may not stop them from landing Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann next summer, according to Sky Sports expert Terry Gibson.

The Blues are already 12 points off the pace in the race to finish in the top four this season after a thoroughly dismal defence of their Premier League title, having already lost eight times.

At the present moment it seems somewhat inconceivable they are going to feature in Europe’s top competition next season, which usually affects the ability to attract top names to the club.

However, La Liga expert Terry Gibson does not believe it will prove to be much of an issue as the Stamford Bridge outfit bid to land the 24-year old France international.

‘If you were Griezmann and in any way interested in going to the Premier League, then you would still look upon a club like Chelsea an attractive proposition’, claimed the former Spurs and Man United forward.

The Les Blues star is enjoying another successful campaign in the Spanish capital, having already scored 36 times in 72 games for Atletico.

Diego Costa has been linked with a move the other way as the controversial marksman has endured a torrid second season in West London and Gibson believes a player exchange may be likely.

‘There is surely a swap there with Griezmann and Diego Costa at some point down the line.’
