Fergie in pole position for January deal as AVB turns down move

Manchester United have moved into pole position for Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell after Chelsea cooled their interest.

Both Chelsea and Manchester United are thought to be extremely keen on the 20-year-old Toffees player who is believed to be valued at £20m.

However, Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas ruled out the Blues making a January swoop for Rodwell.

“I saw that we’d been linked with him [Rodwell],” said AVB.

“First, it’s important to clarify that it’s unfair that I constantly comment on other players.

“In midfield, we don’t need players.”

Manchester United have been linked with several midfield players as they look to cover the losses of Anderson, Tom Cleverley and Darren Fletcher.
