There aren’t too many left-backs in world football that are going to be linked with a move to Stamford Bridge whilst England centurion Ashley Cole is still around, but Southampton starlet Luke Shaw is a defender worthy of the rare accolade.
The 18 year-old has emerged as a real talent at St. Mary’s since Southampton gained promotion to the top flight in 2012, having claimed the No.3 slot in the Saints starting line-up last season despite only making one senior appearance for the south-coast outfit previously.
The England U21, whose been involved with the Three Lions since his days with the U16s, has been likened to fellow Southampton academy product Gareth Bale in style, being an incredible athlete and possessing exceptional technique on the ball.
Shaw epitomises the modern full-back with his capability to affect both ends of the football pitch, and at this point in his career it seems his potential is virtually limitless.
Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City have all been linked, which is a real testament to how highly the youngster is rated in England, and it’s believed that although Southampton are reluctant to sell, they could let their defensive prodigy leave St. Mary’s for around £12million.
