Chelsea went into their clash with Everton last night knowing that a win would take them top of the Premier League table after Manchester City failed to beat Middlesbrough. While much of the talk surrounding the summit of the division has centred around the Citizens, Liverpool and Arsenal, the London club have been picking up points of late in the background, but they were anything but quiet against the Toffees.

Indeed, a 5-0 win was a real statement of intent from the Blues, with Everton, under Ronald Koeman, having been talked about at top four challengers already this term. The gulf in quality between the sides was apparent from the off, with Chelsea 2-0 up after 20 minutes through Eden Hazard and Marcos Alonso.

Diego Costa then scored his ninth of the season before Hazard netted the goal of the game to make it 4-0. The Belgian was once again involved in the fifth, with his shot turned into the net by Pedro following Maarten Stekelenburg’s save.

It was a huge night for Chelsea, and here are FIVE pictures that summed it up…

Eden Hazard was widely criticised last term for an apparent lack of desire and commitment to the cause, but he’s been rejuvenated by Antonio Conte. He scored his sixth league goal of the campaign after 18 minutes against Everton, and he is once again looking happy to be in the blue of Chelsea.

Alonso off the mark

Signed for just over £20m during the summer, a few eyebrows were raised when Marcos Alonso arrived at Stamford Bridge. Having struggled at Bolton and while on loan at Sunderland, not much was expected of him, but he’s been great during the Blues’ recent run.

He notched his first Chelsea goal with a neat left-footed finish last night, prompting a great celebration.

Costa to the top…

Love or loathe him, it’s hard not to appreciated Diego Costa’s contribution this season. The controversial striker netted his ninth goal of the season yesterday to move back to the top of the Premier League’s scoring chart!

Eden Hazard’s wonderful second goal of the night was his seventh of the season, taking him above his ENTIRE return (6) for 2015/16 already. It was a lovely shot, too.

Pedro's Chelsea career hasn't been a bed of roses, but he looks to be shining under Antonio Conte in this 3-4-3 set-up and he was on hand to put the icing on the cake with goal number five of the night! His boss seemed happy with him, and rightfully so,
