There is a buzz around every club at this time of the year.
Some of the players are leaving for varying reasons – some will be missed, others not. However, the excitement is always around who will be coming into a club and Chelsea’s rumour mill has been no different.
With the imminent arrival of Antonio Conte and his little black book of players, the future looks very interesting for Blues fans. Without doubt, Conte will be raiding Serie A for reinforcements and his knowledge in that league will be second to none.
One look at the Italian side against Belgium on Monday evening will give Chelsea fans a clue as to Conte’s style of play, as they walked over a very good national team, who just never really got going.
So, if we forget speculation on the transfers that are very unlikely and concentrate on the most likely, who will Conte recruit this summer?
Here are FIVE realistic options…
The Roma star claims that Conte is keen to sign him and admits there’s contact from Chelsea. It has also been reported that Chelsea may have to pay in excess of £30m to secure the signature of Nainggolan who could be offered a six-figure weekly salary and a five-year deal.
The Belgian is a combative midfielder, who is known to be physical, strong in the challenge and effective as a defensive shield. Sound technique and sublime passing skills make this player a standout candidate to be Conte’s first summer signing.
Chelsea are still confident of completing a complicated deal for the Juventus forward. Morata would initially re-sign for Real Madrid for around £23m courtesy of a buy-back clause in his contract before moving on to London for a fee closer to £40m.
His biggest skill? He knows where the goal is. The 23-year-old has scored 25 goals and provided 16 assists in 86 appearances for Juventus. In his first season in Turin he was worth a goal every 153 minutes in all competitions. This past season, during which Morata struggled a little, that figure has risen to a goal every 210 minutes.
Reports in Italy suggest that Chelsea are close to spending up to £24m on the Napoli centre-back.
Incoming Blues boss Antonio Conte is determined to strengthen his defence this summer and he has earmarked a number of targets. Juventus star Leonardo Bonucci is high on the shortlist, but according to Gazzetta dello Sport (via talkSPORT), Chelsea are prepared to shell out a huge fee to land Koulibaly. The Senegal international has admitted he is likely to leave for a big club this summer, with a contract renewal no nearer with his current team.
The defender was in fine form last season, helping Juventus win their fifth Serie A title in a row.
The 29-year-old has been with the club since 2010 and it has been rumoured he is ready for a new challenge this summer and according to La Stampa, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are all chasing Bonucci. Juve have so far insisted he is not for sale. But, when asked whether he would be moving on, Bonucci refused to commit his future to the club.
Chelsea are looking to beat off competition to land the Leicester City midfielder and the Blues are prepared to offer Kante £100,000-a-week to lure him to west London, which eclipses his current wages of £35,000-per-week.
The French midfielder, who is massively in demand following his stand-out season for the title winners, has claimed his future won’t be decided until after the EUROs, but that has not stopped Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain increasing their interest for the 25-year-old.
