Chelsea's woe this season has been well documented and it looks as though the campaign is absolutely doomed, even before we enter February.

However, a January transfer window can provide some club changing signings and Gonzalo Higuain should be one of those men for the Blues in this window. Diego Costa has hit some form, but the troublesome Spaniard has been absolute liability on too many occasions and needs another player to compete for his spot to keep him on the straight and narrow.

Guus Hiddink is unlikely to be around next season, but the Dutch manager could make a huge statement for the club by bringing this star into the club and could help the team reach their performance levels of last season.

Jose Mourinho worked with Higuain whilst at Real Madrid, but the sacking of the Special One doesn't mean that the Argentine would be against a move to London.

Here are FIVE reasons the Napoli man would be perfect...

Calm it, Diego

Diego Costa (centre)

When Costa inevitably gets another suspension for some psychotic episode, Higuain is more than an adept deputy and his quality in competition for the starting berth could be another to see Costa calm his antics.

On your bike, Loic

Remy

Its hard to blame Loic Remy for wanting to move on, if he does, and the Frenchman - who has been out of favour with consecutive managers - may want a move to secure himself more minutes.

Goal machine

Higuain

There isn't much more to say than the fact that Gonzalo Higuain has scored 21 goals in 21 Serie A appearances this season.

It is without question that Chelsea would not be in the bottom half of the table if they have a player performing like that.

Seasoned campaigner

Argentina v Portugal - International Friendly

Experience is always crucial for a club having a tough time and Higuain has been there and done it all.

From World Cup finals to Clasico fixtures, the ex-Madrid striker wouldn't be fazed by the mess Chelsea are in.

Peaker..

Higuain

Chelsea, due to their new transfer policy, have spent a lot of their time buying players with future potential, rather than investing for the here and now.

However, Higuain would provide the Blues with a star ready to go from the minute he signs.
