On the surface, swapping in Alvaro Morata for Eden Hazard doesn't sound plausible or likely.

Yet, it has been reported that this is a possibility, along with a sizeable amount of cash, of course. How likely it is remains to be seen, but sometimes there's no smoke without fire.

It appears to be an idea that Real Madrid are floating, rather than one coming from Stamford Bridge and although it is rumoured that Antonio Conte wants both at Chelsea, he could be swayed based upon the Belgian's lacklustre performances last season.

Morata seems to be the striker in the news at the moment, with a number of teams looking at taking him on, but once again, as with Michy Batshuayi, the Blues will be relying on the lure of a big club and Conte due to the obvious lack of European football.

Here are FIVE suggestions why the swap may be a bad idea...

Hazard's Form

hazard3

Last season could be said to be a complete one-off. At a club where no one seemed entirely happy, Hazard inexplicably looked so unlike the player that had won the PFA Player Of The Year award last April.

His form did seem to improve towards the end of Chelsea's campaign and now that he is involved in the EUROss with Belgium, he has seemingly found his way again, but if he goes as part of this deal to Real Madrid, Chelsea will be missing a key component of what drives them forward. Does Conte want to lose a world class player that could make the difference to finishing first or fourth next season? Probably not...

Morata - A good Prem Fit?

Alvaro Morata

Any player coming from any other league obviously lacks experience in the division they are coming into, but would the Premier League be a good fit for the Spaniard? After two seasons in Serie A, Morata has stood out for Juventus, but the Premier League is a different animal to the two he's played in (Serie A and La Liga).

The pace and intensity are greater, he won't have time on the ball to pick his shot and, although the Italians are known for their tackling, smaller Premier League clubs will man mark him throughout a game and use physicality to nullify him. Talented he may be, but some doubt he would enjoy the realities of the English game.

Morata For Hazard

It's odd to swap two players that aren't like for like. Clubs would normally swap players that play in the same kind of position, so exchanging a forward for a midfielder would leave a hole for Conte to fill in attacking midfield.

The fact that Hazard is world class makes him equally hard to replace. With Diego Costa and possibly Michy Batshuayi as first choice striking options, Morata may be on the bench just as much as he would at Real Madrid. Conte will then have an unhappy striker and a gap to fill. Why would he want that?

£35m for Morata?

Morata

Part of the deal involves a cash payment. The problem for Conte in considering the move will be to think about who he could get for that amount of money, to replace someone like Hazard. Granted, it would go part of the way to finding a top player, but when Manchester United look like they need to spend £80m to get Paul Pogba and West Ham's Dimitri Payet's valuation is surely upwards of £40m, the £35m that Real will offer won't get him the kind of player Conte will want.

This is a non-starter.

Morata and Costa as a pair...

Diego Costa

The last dilemma is whether Conte is better off with Diego Costa or with Alvaro Morata. One will go or the other simply won't be recruited.

It's known that Costa wants a return to Atletico Madrid after a dubious season at Stamford Bridge. Injuries seem to be catching up with him and Costa didn't find his form until Guus Hiddink took charge, which meant the Spanish striker failed to impress national team coach Vicente del Bosque, who left Costa out of his 23-man squad for EURO 2016. Morata on the other hand performed admirably, but doesn't have the record that Costa has in the Premier League.

Chelsea can afford to have both Morata and Hazard and that seems the better option for Conte.
