Five reasons this Chelsea youngster will thrive under Conte

After being compared to Michael Ballack by former England manager Glenn Hoddle last season, things have been pretty good for Chelsea youngster Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

The 20-year-old made fifteen appearances for the Blues in all competitions, marking his improvement from the campaign before and showing Chelsea fans why he has so much promise.

But with Antonio Conte’s arrival drawing ever-closer, the futures of many of the senior squad are still up in air, and many are hoping Loftus-Cheek can make the step up under the Italian.

So what can Loftus-Cheek offer the team? Here are FIVE reasons why this future England star could be the difference at the Bridge next season…

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Ruben Loftus-Cheek is one of Chelsea’s brightest young stars and you can see why.

At 20-years-old, he carries a fantastic presence in the heart of the midfield and you can really see why he has been compared to some of the best in the game.

What he needs now is to accumulate some game time and prove to the Chelsea hierarchy that he is the man to take them forward. After all, he may have to dislodge Cesc first….

Goalscoring ability

Whilst Loftus-Cheek has only managed one senior goal for Chelsea, he’s displayed his goalscoring credentials extremely well whilst on duty for England.

He’s featured 35 times for England, ranging from the U16s to the U21s, and has despatched eleven times.

For a box-to-box midfielder this makes for extremely good reading and the 20-year-old will hope he can carry this form into the Premier League when given a chance.

Jose thought highly

Jose made the decision to keep Loftus-Cheek at the club instead of sending him out on-loan and that is a real compliment.

Sending him on-loan may have been more fruitful but the fact Jose wanted to keep a close eye himself says a lot about the youngsters’ credentials.

Whilst Loftus-Cheek never got to work that closely with the Portuguese manager to have him hold you in high regards is never a bad thing.

He could be the next Paul Pogba

Pogba could be Chelsea's new Frank Lampard...

There is real belief at the Bridge that Loftus-Cheek could be the next Paul Pogba.

The former Manchester United youngster never really got a big break at Old Trafford but after his transfer to Juventus, he’s turned himself into one of the world’s best in less than four years.

Whilst Chelsea fans hope Loftus-Cheek will stay, he does have that potential to be as good as the Frenchman.

He was fantastic for the Three Lions throughout, with the Chelsea man producing a stand-out performance in the final against France, helping his side to a 2-1 victory.

His quality left Chelsea fans licking their lips but here’s hoping Conte will give him a chance next season, rather than bringing in another huge name for him to compete with.
