We’re now nearly halfway through the January transfer window and so far it’s been… well, incredibly uneventful.

Indeed, all twenty Premier League clubs have made just 13 signings between them this month - only two of which have joined teams in the top half of the table.

But perhaps being left underwhelmed by the January transfer window is largely inevitable. Whilst the tabloids hype up every rumour as absolute fact, clubs are often restricted in terms of finance and the fact their priority targets probably won’t be allowed to leave their current employers halfway through the season.

Nethertheless, a man can dream. Which is why Football Fancast have decided to issue Chelsea interim manager Guus Hiddink a magic transfer wand - with the task of waving it at any Serie A star he desires this month.

So without further ado, here are FIVE Serie A targets the Blues would love to sign during the winter window. Unfortunately, however, they probably wont.

CARLOS BACCA

Amid Chelsea's widely reported search for added firepower, the west London outfit have found themselves increasingly drawn to AC Milan striker Carlos Bacca.

The Colombian international appears perpetually stuck just outside world football's front-man elite but he boasts a very strong scoring record from his spells in South America, Belgium, La Liga and Serie A with a career return of 196 goals in 379 appearances.

That includes 49 goals in two seasons with Sevilla, firing Unai Emery's side to consecutive Europa League titles, and eight in 17 Serie A starts for Rossoneri this term.

Famed for his pace, power, netting prowess and unorthodox style of play, the 29-year-old has often been mooted as a good fit for Premier League. Bringing him to the English top flight this month, however, will reportedly cost around £30million.

GONZALO HIGUAIN

Another potential answer to Chelsea's striker search. Gonzalo Higuain hasn't explicitly been linked with a Blues move this month but he's never too far away being mooted as a transfer target of the Premier League's top clubs.

That's in no small part due to the Argentina international's formidable scoring record in Europe, netting 121 times in 264 appearances for Real Madrid before amassing a whopping 73 in 123 for current employers Napoli.

The 28-year-old looks set to record his best haul to date, notching up 20 goals in 23 appearances so far this term including 18 strikes in Serie A.

Targeting him this January seems a rather fruitless task, however. Napoli have made it abundantly clear that they're not interested in selling Higuain - meaning the Blues would have to activate his £67million release clause. Steep.

FRANCO VAZQUEZ

With Oscar, Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard all struggling to impress in the No.10 role this season, Chelsea were linked with Palermo's Franco Vazquez back in November.

Last season, the 26-year-old was part of an attacking partnership with Paulo Dybala that ripped up the rest of the league, racking up 26 goals and 20 assists between them. But he was left behind at Stadio Renzo Barbera last summer as his prodigious accomplice made way for Juventus in a €40million deal.

The attacking midfielder has continued to impress this term, however, to the extent that he's now registered two caps for the Italian national team despite being born in South America. Indeed, Vazquez has found three goals and five assists from 18 outings whilst averaging a Serie A-best 3.7 successful dribbles per match.

Rumours of Chelsea's interest have waned over the last few months, however, so a mid-season move to Stamford Bridge seems unlikely.

PAUL POGBA

Chelsea were courting Juventus star Paul Pogba in the summer and their miraculous fall from grace since has only further validated the club's long-term interest.

Indeed, since swapping Old Trafford for the Old Lady by way of a free transfer in summer 2012, the France international has flourished into one of the top midfielders in world football, blending a rangy 6 foot 2 frame with netting prowess and technical trickery.

The 22-year-old's return of 29 goals in 155 outings has helped Juve claim three consecutive Serie A titles, whilst earning him Europe's Golden Boy award in 2013 and a spot in UEFA's Team of the Year for 2015.

He's unquestionably within the realms of world-class, which is why pretty much everybody wants to get their hands on the former Red Devil.

Pogba seems set to stay with the Turin outfit until the end of the season, however, and Chelsea will likely to struggle to attain his signature next summer without the incentive of Champions League football.

ALESSANDRO FLORENZI

Chelsea were linked with Alessandro Florenzi last summer and they'll almost certainly have taken note of the right-back's impressive form since - especially amid Branislav Ivanovic's inability to produce the goods at No.2 this season.

The 24-year-old is quickly emerging as one of the brightest talents in Serie A - perhaps recognised best by his Puskas nomination for an exceptional long-range strike against Barcelona in the Champions League earlier this season.

The Italy international begun his career as a midfielder but has flourished since making the move to right-back last season, providing fantastic energy, tenacity and attacking flair from the No.2 slot.

That versatility would add further depth to Chelsea's squad and it's Florenzi's very complete skills set - along with his ever-passionate displays - that has seen so many top clubs linked with him this term.

Luring him away from the Stadio Olympico seems a rather difficult task, however. Following in the footsteps of Daniele De Rossi and Francesco Totti, the Roma product may want to become a one-club man.
