Along with a star striker, it’s believed Jose Mourinho is planning to add a new central midfielder to the Chelsea squad this summer, with Frank Lampard set for a bosman departure and the likes of Ramires and David Luiz unable to provide the quality required to break down the Premier League’s smaller sides.
And according to the tabloids, Juventus star Arturo Vidal has particularly caught the Blues gaffer’s eye. Indeed, the 26 year-old has just come to the end of a sensational campaign that’s seen him claim 18 goals and five assists in all competitions. That includes an eleven-goal contribution to the Turin outfit’s and Vidal’s third successive Serie A title, and five goals in seven Champions League outings.
Furthermore, an incredibly athletic box-to-box midfielder famed for his contribution at both ends of the pitch – best illustrated by the Chile international’s averages of 4.3 tackles, 1.5 key passes and 2.1 shots per match – Vidal seems a natural fit for Mourinho’s defensively-assured philosophy, whilst also offering the Blues significantly more going forward.
Alongside Nemanja Matic, the Juve star would constitute an incredibly powerful, fearsome midfield hub at Stamford Bridge.
But the free-scoring South American has been valued as highly as £50million by the tabloids in the past, and his performances this season have also attracted interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester United.
