Frank Lampard thanks Chelsea fans

Frank Lampard, Chelsea midfielderChelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has acknowledged the support he has received from the club’s fans in recent weeks and thanked them for their kindness.

The 34-year-old’s future at Stamford Bridge is far from certain, with reports circulating that the London club are unwilling to renew his contract, which expires this summer.

He scored the fifth goal during Blues’ 5-1 FA Cup win over Southampton, which was greeted by chants of ‘sign him up’ by the supporters.

Lampard revealed after the game that he was happy to hear the crowd and that he has been moved by the support he is receiving:

“They supported me throughout my career here and particularly in recent weeks,” he is quoted by Sky Sports.

“The way they were with me then is the way they have been recently and all the time I’ve been here. I just wanted to say thanks back.”

The England international went on to state that he is happy at the club and is focusing on his performances rather than speculation surrounding his future:

“I am enjoying my football, I have to say. I am enjoying the moment. I know there is a lot of talking going around but I am actually really enjoying playing.

“That’s what it is all about really so even if there is certain things going on your head, I think when I run out there and the fans support me the way I do, it can’t help but make you a bit emotional.”
