Eden Hazard was not at fault as Chelsea crashed out of the FA Cup at the hands of Manchester United.

A display that was characterised by slow, plodding possession and no end product saw fans enter into open rebellion against manager Maurizio Sarri as United won 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Indeed, come the final whistle, most of the home fans had gone home.

And yet Hazard kept trying.

He is a mercurial talent, the Belgian, regularly prone to drifting in and out of games but also capable of the absolutely sublime. He is a match-winner.

Of course, that did not prove to be true against United, but he was perhaps the most industrious of all the Chelsea players on the pitch, regularly showing for the ball and attempting to take on Ashley Young down the Blues' left flank.

Throughout the game, per WhoScored, Hazard touched the ball 91 times, the second-most of anyone on the field. Only Jorginho had more touches, and he did precious little with them.

Hazard, by comparison, drove at United. He completed eight dribbles throughout the game. Nemanja Matic came second in that category to Hazard, and he completed just two.

The left winger also won three tackles, more than both Young and Luke Shaw, and had a pass success rate of 82%.

He never, ever gave up throughout the 90 minutes and had three shots on goal, the joint-most of any player.

Hazard was also dispossessed a total of three times but his industry should not be sneered at, nor should his speculative dribbling.

Sarri claimed earlier in the season, per Sky Sports, that Hazard is "not a leader".

That has been roundly disproved. He was an example for his team-mates to follow and it is to his credit that he ploughed the lone furrow at Stamford Bridge on Monday.

Hazard could not drag his team-mates to victory this time, but that is what it would have been. He would have grabbed Chelsea by the scruff of the neck and, despite the kicking and the screaming, planted them in the quarter-finals.

It is not his fault that the Blues lost. But it is to his credit that he never accepted the result.
