With Alvaro Morata having begun this season in as poor form as he ended the last, Chelsea could soon find themselves in the market for a new first choice striker.

The Spaniard, despite scoring against Arsenal in an early season encounter, still looks bereft of confidence and has been usurped in the starting XI by Olivier Giroud. Whilst the Frenchman has proved a fine deputy for Morata, at 31-years-old and with his contract at Stamford Bridge set to expire in the summer, he can hardly be considered the future of the Blues’ attack.

Maurizio Sarri is likely to want to acquire a top new striker pretty soon, in which case, he would be wise to identify Mauro Icardi as his primary target.

The Argentine has been in fine form for Inter Milan and was utterly prolific in Serie A last season, netting 29 times in just 34 league outings. Beyond being a lethal finisher, the 25-year-old’s all round game is also ideally suited to the Premier League.

If Chelsea do need a new hitman, Icardi is amongst the best out there. The London club should be readying themselves to win the race to his signature - deemed to worth £85.5 million by Transfermarkt - before any of their rivals can make him their own.

What do you think, Chelsea fans - would you be happy to see Icardi come in to replace the flop-signing Morata or would you prefer to stick with the Spaniard?
