An impressive pre-season convinced new Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri to start Callum Hudson-Odoi in the Community Shield defeat to Manchester City. This inclusion was a huge statement of faith in the exciting 17-year-old, yet he has not been featured in a single matchday squad since.
Despite having travelled to Greece for the Blues’ Europa League opener against PAOK last week, the England under-19 international didn’t even make the bench.
However, this Wednesday’s EFL Cup clash with Liverpool provides Sarri with another chance to give Hudson-Odoi a run out for the first team. Despite the quality of the opposition, both sides on Wednesday will be more focused upon their weekend meeting just a few days later in the Premier League, making this an ideal time for both managers to rotate their squads.
Sarri should take this chance to give some of his first choice attackers a rest whilst also providing Hudson-Odoi with an opportunity to prove his quality again.
What do you think, Chelsea fans – should Sarri include Hudson-Odoi in his starting XI for Wednesday’s EFL Cup tie with Liverpool?
