Following another lacklustre showing against Newcastle United on Sunday, Alvaro Morata’s status as Chelsea’s first choice striker must now be brought into question.

The Spaniard scored a fine goal against Arsenal in the previous match, but his return of only two Premier League strikes in the calendar year of 2018 so far is simply not good enough for a Chelsea front man.

Olivier Giroud’s record in front of goal in this time period, coming primarily from the bench, is much superior to Morata’s. The Frenchman must now be close to usurping Morata in the Blues’ starting XI.

Giroud is not Maurizio Sarri’s only alternative option to Morata though. The young England international Tammy Abraham has shown promise in recent loan spells with Swansea City and Bristol City, and may now be ready to take his chance in the first team at Stamford Bridge.

Alternatively, Sarri could call upon Eden Hazard to take up a centre-forward’s position. The Belgian superstar may be more comfortable when operating on the flanks, but his talent is such that he’d be more than capable of doing a good job of leading the line for Chelsea.

So, Blues fans, if it were up to you, who would you choose to start up front for your team this weekend against Bournemouth?
