As reported by The Sun, Chelsea are tracking the situation of Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld with his teammates fearing he could close to a summer exit.

What's the story?

The Belgian centre-back's contract expires in 2019, with Spurs holding the option a year's extension, but with no new deal in sight some are wondering whether his long-term future lies with his current club.

The Sun report that Chelsea are one of three clubs tracking his situation.

The paper say that Alderweireld's teammates at Spurs are worried he could leave in a similar manner to Kyle Walker, who exited the club last summer after protracted speculation about his future.

Rated at £31.5m by Transfermarkt, could we see a big move across London for the 28-year-old at the end of the season?

A good signing for Chelsea?

There's no doubt that Alderweireld is one of the better defensive talents in the division. Having made over 100 appearances for Spurs, he's cemented himself as a fan favourite at club for his committed, classy performances in the heart of their defence.

He's helped Spurs to seven clean sheets this season despite only making 17 appearances due to injury. When fit and playing regularly there's arguably no better defender at the club.

The Belgian international would be a great benefit to every team in England and Chelsea are no exception, with Blues supporters looking for an upgrade on the likes of Gary Cahill.
