In Focus: Bailey potential is worth Chelsea investing in this summer

As reported by The Daily Star, Chelsea are one of five English Premier League clubs interested in signing winger Leon Bailey in the upcoming summer transfer window.

What’s the story?

The Blues currently deploy the likes of Willian and Pedro on the flanks in the final third but with both ageing and inconsistent, there is scope to add more talent to the wide areas in an effort to build another title-winning side.

One player Chelsea are looking at is £60m-rated Leon Bailey, according to The Daily Star.

The paper reckon they are amongst a group of English clubs ready to pay the money to lure him from Bayer Leverkusen, where he is enjoying excellent form in the Bundesliga.

Is he the future of the Chelsea attack?

How good is he?

Still just 20 years of age, Bailey is currently showing the potential to make a breakthrough at one of Europe’s elite clubs, helping Bayer Leverkusen push for a European qualification spot in the German top-flight.

With 10 goals and five assists so far this term, he’s following up on a fine 2016/17 season at Genk where he scored eight and provided 10 assists in Belgian football.

That’s two seasons now he’s produced consistently and surrounded by better players is only likely to blossom further and have an even higher direct goal contribution.

He can play on both flanks, possesses great pace, loves to shoot from distance and take the odd spectacular free-kick or two.

He ticks all the boxes that Chelsea are looking for in the final third and pursuing him this summer should be seen as a priority for the Blues.
