According to reports in The Sun on Sunday, Chelsea are ready to rival Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Watford winger Richarlison.

What's the word, then?

Well, The Sun on Sunday says that after an impressive start to his Hornets career following an £11.5m move from Fluminense during the summer, Blues boss Antonio Conte is keeping tabs on the highly-rated 20-year-old.

However, if he wants to bring the Brazilian to Stamford Bridge he will need to fight off competition from London neighbours Spurs, while he is unlikely to be available on the cheap considering he signed a five-year deal just three months ago.

How has Richarlison done this season?

Prior to his team's Premier League clash against West Ham United at Vicarage Road on Sunday, the wide man has scored four goals and provided a further three assists in 11 top flight matches, while the tally of the former perhaps should have been higher after he missed some golden chances in Watford's defeat to Chelsea last month.

Would he be a good signing for Chelsea?

He certainly could be, yes.

The way that the 20-year-old has adapted so quickly to English football is certainly admirable, and he looks to have a bright future ahead of him.

While he loves to dribble and cause problems for opposition defenders, his strength in the air – he has won 34 aerial duels in 11 Premier League games according to Squawka – shows that he has plenty to offer all over the pitch.

Would he choose Chelsea over Tottenham?

It's difficult to say and it could come down to where he is more likely to play on a regular basis.

In the Blues' preferred 3-4-2-1 or 3-5-1-1 systems the Brazilian would either have to play as a wing-back or in a more central attacking midfield role, although it would likely be a similar situation at Tottenham as they don't play with out-and-out wingers either.

That said, Conte may feel that Richarlison has similar qualities to Eden Hazard, and he could choose to utilise him in a similar role or even believe he could be the Belgian's long-term replacement.
