As reported by The Sun, Chelsea are showing interest in Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar ahead of the January transfer window.

What's the story?

The upcoming transfer window could be a massive one for the Blues. Currently trailing in the English Premier League, bringing in elite reinforcements in key areas could be the difference between defending their league title and falling short.

To that end, the club will be scouting all over the world in search of the next wave of incoming talent.

One player said to be interesting the Stamford Bridge outfit is defender Milan Skriniar, with The Sun reporting they sent scouts to watch him in action against Atalanta on Sunday.

The paper say they're long-term admirers of the Slovakian, who is rated as worth £13.5m by Transfermarkt.

Is he a player capable of providing a boost to the Chelsea defensive line?

Who is he?

The 22-year-old only signed for Inter this summer, joining from fellow Serie A outfit Sampdoria. He's since gone on to make 13 appearances for the Italians, helping them into second place in the league table, just two points behind leaders Napoli.

In those 13 matches he's contributed to six clean sheets, which isn't a half bad record, albeit as part of a defensive unit rather than solely down to him.

Still it shows he's on the right track to become an elite defender at the level required to be a success in the English Premier League. With Chelsea needing more bodies in the centre of defence to add quality and depth, he could be the perfect signing if the scouts reportedly watching him return to London impressed.
