As reported by The Guardian, Chelsea are interested in signing long-term Arsenal target Thomas Lemar.
Lemar was one of European football’s hottest properties in the summer transfer window after a blistering season at Monaco, although a move away from the Ligue 1 champions failed to transpire, despite the club accepting a £92m offer from Arsenal.
Now the stage could be set for one of Arsenal’s Premier League rivals to make their move, with The Guardian reporting that both Chelsea and Liverpool are keeping a close eye on his situation ahead of the January transfer window.
The paper say that a bid of £90m could be enough to tempt his club into again accepting an offer.
Lemar may not be having an exciting a season as last term, but he’s still a vital part of a Monaco side second in Ligue 1 and has had his share of injury issues to contend with in the first half of 2017/18.
He’s scored twice and assisted four times in 14 league matches, just a fraction of his 13 goals and 17 assists of last season.
His form of the 2016/17 season highlights his quality at the highest level, helping Monaco reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
That’s the potential that clubs like Chelsea would be buying and still just 22 years of age, he has plenty of time to reach those heights again, making him still an exciting talent for the elite clubs in England.
