According to El Gol Digital, Chelsea are interested in signing Villarreal midfielder Manu Trigueros during the January transfer window.

What's the story?

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, like a number of his competitors, is believed to be in the market for a new central midfielder this month.

The Blues have been linked with Bayern Munich's Arturo Vidal, although it is thought that the two clubs are currently some way apart in terms of their valuation of the Chilean.

According to El Gol Digital, Chelsea could switch their attention to Villarreal's Trigueros, who is believed to be available for a figure in the region of £30m.

The 26-year-old is a previous Barcelona youth, and has developed into key player for Villarreal since joining the Yellow Submarine from Murcia in 2010.

What would he bring to Chelsea?

A classy midfielder with an impressive range of passing, Trigueros has scored twice and provided three assists in 22 appearances for Villarreal during the 2017-18 campaign.

As mentioned, the Spaniard spent time with Barcelona during his youth, but began his professional career with Murcia before making the switch to Villarreal.

The midfielder was named in the UEFA La Liga Team of the Season following an impressive 2016-17 campaign, and he is fast closing on 200 league appearances for his current club.

According to El Gol Digital, Chelsea believe that £30m would be enough to sign Trigueros, and in the current climate, that could well turn out to be a steal.

At the age of 26, the Spaniard has plenty of room for improvement, and his technical abilities would fit in well alongside the likes of N'Golo Kante in the Chelsea midfield.
