In numbers: Alonso’s dominating performance v Everton

Antonio Conte’s Chelsea look to have finally found their feet in the Premier League this season, with a 5-0 drubbing of Everton on Saturday afternoon putting the Blues down as many punters’ favourites for the title.

The Blues have gone from strength-to-strength ever since their wake-up call against Arsenal last month and everything came together perfectly at Stamford Bridge this weekend, as Chelsea tore apart an Everton side who have had a fairly decent start to the season.

Whilst the likes of Eden Hazard and Diego Costa caught the headlines after they returned to form, with the pair abysmal in Chelsea’s title defence last season, summer signing Marcos Alonso put in a performance worth shouting about.

In only his sixth Premier League appearance for Chelsea, Alonso was integral to Conte’s tactics and dominated the midfield in both attacking and defensive aspects.

With one clearance and seven successful tackles defensively, Alonso put in a fine shift going forward with 96 touches, three key passes and his first Premier League goal for the Blues.

The 25-year-old Spaniard was a surprise recruit for many this summer, with the player not showing his full capabilities in previous loan stint with Sunderland.

However, Conte has shown he has an eye for a gem and his punt here has certainly paid off.
