Inter Milan lead race for Chelsea midfielder

Inter Milan are ready to mount a £10m summer move for Chelsea outcast John Obi Mikel, according to reports from the London Evening Standard.

The Nigerian star looks set to be one of a host of names to due to be axed by Blues chief Jose Mourinho during the coming transfer window, with the Portuguese coach ready to overhaul his squad.

Mikel has featured infrequently this term, and appears to be facing a bleak future at Stamford Bridge following the arrival of Nemanja Matic in January.

This has alerted Inter, who are keen to lure him to Italy in a £10m deal.

The Serie A heavyweights are set for a massive summer following their recent takeover, with a number of big name players expected to accompany Nemanja Vidic – who has already agreed a free transfer from Manchester United – to the San Siro.

The holding midfielder may well be tempted by a change of scenery and the chance to get his career back on track in Milan.

Mikel has been at Chelsea for eight years after arriving in controversial circumstances.

It was thought that the now 26-year-old was set to join Manchester United originally, but Mourinho’s side pounced to steal him away from Lyn Oslo in Norway after a compensation deal was settled between the three clubs.
