Jake Clarke-Salter shares an emotional snap after crashing out of Euros

The Young Lions definitely hoped for a better outcome at the European Under-21 Championship’s in Italy and San Marino.

England were among the favourites to lift the trophy pre-tournament and the FA will reportedly ask Aidy Boothroyd for an explanation as to what exactly transpired at the tournament, though his position is not thought to be under threat.

Instead of being crowned champions, the young English squad crashed out at the group stage without a single win under their belt.

Needless to say, the players were also devastated.

Their captain, Chelsea academy product Jake Clarke-Salter, was brave enough to address the elephant in the room as he posted an emotional Instagram snap, which was very well received by both the fans and the players.

Devastated to have come home so early, Not the tournament we had hoped for!! Lot of things to take and learn from but was an honour to have captained the side throughout?

Now it’s back to the chalkboard for Boothroyd, Clarke-Salter and the rest of the side as they dissect what was a thoroughly underwhelming tournament.
