Chelsea seem to be on the lookout for a new striker before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

Antonio Conte has Alvaro Morata as his main man up front, but Michy Batshuayi has been struggling to impress the manager as back-up.

Moreover, the Daily Mail recently claimed that Borussia Dortmund are keen on signing the Belgian on loan for the rest of the season.

Numerous names have been linked with a switch to Chelsea, including Andy Carroll and Christian Benteke.

Now, according to The Telegraph, the West London outfit have made an enquiry about the availability of Stoke City striker Peter Crouch.

The 6ft7in hitman has been at an array of clubs in his career so far, ranging from Portsmouth to Liverpool.

This season, the Englishman has been used sparingly by the Potters, who have handed him eight Premier League starts and 10 appearances from off the bench.

In that time, Crouch, who broke through the academy ranks at Tottenham Hotspur in 1998, has managed three goals and two assists.

Some Chelsea fans have been left baffled by the club's reported interest in the striker.

Club legend Frank Lampard, though, thinks that Conte is just looking for a short-term solution.

The retired midfielder told talkSPORT:

“I think both [Crouch and Carroll] would be a short-term or Plan-B sort of signing, I don’t think we’re looking at either of those players in the long-term. No disrespect to them, because they are very good at what they do, but I don’t think Chelsea are going to be going down that route.

“There is obviously an issue with scoring goals recently, so they’re in a position where they need to something, but I think January is not the time. Maybe they are just trying to get themselves through to the summer and they’ll look forward from there.”
