Chelsea have apparently rejected an enquiry made by Liverpool for the Englishman, who despite sitting in the shadow of current Chelsea first team defender Ashley Cole is still being billed as a future International star.
Bertrand has also stated his desire to remain as a Chelsea player, telling journalists in Kuala Lumpur ‘I see my future being Chelsea’s number one (left back).’
‘I don’t concentrate on trying to dislodge him (Cole). I just focus on myself and my game and I’m sure that time will come’.
There is however the issue of the impending World Cup 2014 which will create lust for first team football for all players, and Bertrand is aware of the competition he will face.
“In the back of my mind I’m aware of it (the World Cup). Hopefully I can get enough games this year and you never know.”
Mourinho has already used the ‘World Cup’ card on Rooney, stating that players need to be in the first team to deserve a seat on the plane, and therefore Bertrand will be hoping the Portuguese manager has faith in his ability and gives him the opportunity to earn a place in the squad.
