Romelu Lukaku will not be loaned out again next season as Chelsea boss elect Jose Mourinho wants to keep him on board.
Mourinho is expected to return to Chelsea once the Spanish season is over after Real Madrid confirmed he will leave the Bernabeu at the end of the season and the Portuguese tactician already has plans in place for when he returns to Stamford Bridge.
One of them is turning Lukaku into the new Didier Drogba after the striker showed his potential when firing home 17 goals while on loan at West Brom last season.
West Brom were hoping to take him for a second spell, while Swansea had also been heavily linked with a swoop but Mourinho will disappoint them both by insisting he is going nowhere.
Lukaku himself is unsure what the future holds and will wait for Mourinho’s appointment to be confirmed.
“I want to play as much as possible,” he revealed. “I want to have a good World Cup so need to be ready. Chelsea? it depends on Mourinho, if he takes over, and what he has to say.”
