Marcos Alonso has refused to rule out a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer, according to The Evening Standard.

What's the word?

The Chelsea left-back has seen his opportunities dwindle in recent months due to a combination of poor form and the emergence of Emerson, with the Brazilian chosen for both legs of the Blues' Europa League semi-final against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Nurtured through the Real Madrid academy Alonso has been linked with a move back to the Bernabeu in the past and when questioned about Real's interest, the 28-year old kept his options open.

“I am very happy here but we will see what happens this summer," Alonso said.

Perfect Disaster

Alonso's departure would be quite a surprise considering Chelsea's lack of depth at full-back and their inability to reinforce due to the transfer ban.

In fact, considering the Spaniard made a total of 38 appearances in all competitions this season Chelsea would be left on the verge of disaster.

However, in football, it is often these moments of peril that yield the greatest rewards. An injury crisis thrust Marcus Rashford into the fire, while a back ailment for Nathaniel Clyne sped up the progress of Trent Alexander-Arnold. In this case, the ultimate reward for Chelsea is Jay Dasilva.

Signed from Luton at the age of 13, Dasilva rose through the Chelsea youth ranks and enjoyed a hugely successful loan spell at Charlton, winning Fans' Player of the Year, before another solid campaign in the Championship with Bristol City this season.

As far back as 2015 Dasilva was being touted for a first-team role with Ian Wright even audaciously tweeting that "Jay da silva left back better player than any current prem left back."

The England U21 international has seen his career stall slightly, in part due to his diminutive stature, but Premier League success has still been reached at his height of 5'7", displayed by Raheem Sterling and N'golo Kante.

An extremely athletic full-back with the desire to attack and the ability to whip in fierce crosses, the truth is that no one can fully predict Dasilva's potential to succeed until he is given a chance.

An Alonso move to Spain coupled with the transfer embargo at Stamford Bridge could be the perfect storm for Dasilva's opportunity, and an Alexander-Arnold-esque emergence is not out of the question for a player with immeasurable talent.
