Chelsea Midfielder Juan Mata has revealed that he was surprised to be left out of the current Spain squad.
However, he has vowed to return from being axed, for this current round of World Cup qualifiers against Belarus and France. The former Valencia man insists he will be hungrier than ever when he is given another international chance.
The 24-year-old’s form has been pivotal in Chelsea’s rise to the top of the Premier League at the start of this current campaign.
The player told the Sun: “I was excited about these games and confident I would make the squad.”
Mata played a key role in Spain’s 4-0 Euro 2012 success over Italy, and the decision not to select him this time round has confused many.
Chelsea next face Tottenham Hotspur in a 12.45 kick off at White Hart Lane on 20th October.
