According to a report from German website Kicker, RB Leipzig are keen on challenging Bayern Munich for the signature of young Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, and if Chelsea do sell they would be wise to get another promising starlet in return.

What's the situation?

Hudson-Odoi rose to prominence during pre-season where, in the absence of many World Cup stars, he shone under new Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri. At the time, most felt that he had done enough to be regularly starting in the first team this season, and these feelings were compounded when the now 18-year-old was handed a start in the Community Shield.

However things haven't quite gone as planned for the youngster, and he has only made one Premier League appearance when he came on as a substitute in the recent win over Watford.

A pacy and tricky winger, Hudson-Odoi looks like he would have so much to offer most teams in Europe despite his young age, and given the success of Jadon Sancho at Borussia Dortmund it is no surprise that the top Bundesliga teams are sniffing around.

It would be an interesting decision for Chelsea to sell Hudson-Odoi to say the least, but one offer that may be too good to turn down is if RB Leipzig agreed to send Dayot Upamecano the other way.

Long-term

Upamecano is an extremely highly-rated young centre-back who, like many others before him, joined Leipzig from sister side Red Bull Salzburg in January 2017.

The 20-year-old Frenchman has all the attributes to become a top centre-half and is already valued at £27m by Transfermarkt. If Chelsea did accept a deal with him coming to Stamford Bridge, there is little doubt that he would be the perfect long-term replacement for David Luiz or Antonio Rudiger.

Having already made 13 appearances in the league this season, Upamecano is becoming a key player for Leipzig, but this could be an ideal move for all parties.
