Chelsea used their official website to complain about the amount of penalties their team have been awarded this season in a blog post entitled ‘Penalty Puzzle’ uploaded today.
Despite The Blues leading the league all season, the club are clearly not satisfied with how they have been treated by the officials, and seem to be following the tone set by their manager, Jose Mourinho, in suggesting their is some sort of agenda against the club.
However, the statistics would suggest that Chelsea may have some reasons to feel aggrieved when this season is compared to previous years:
Penalties awarded to Chelsea in the Premier League:
2014/15 – 2
2013/14 – 7
2012/13 – 11
2011/12 – 5
2010/11 – 8
2009/10 – 12
However, it’s hard not too feel this is a tad undignified from the club who currently lead the league by six points.
This move follows Chelsea Football Club using their official Instagram account last week to strike back at Jamie Carragher and Graeme Souness following their comments in the wake of the club’s Champions League elimination to Paris Saint Germain.
The club posted two images of the former Liverpool players attempting to influence officials during a game, accompanied by the comment ‘For those with short memories’.
