Petr Cech open to Mourinho return to Chelsea

Chelsea shot-stopper Petr Cech has said he would love to see ex-manager Jose Mourinho back at Stamford Bridge for a second time.

It’s no secret that Rafa Benitez was only ever going to be an interim manager at Chelsea and his summer departure was confirmed by the Spaniard in his outburst last week.

Chelsea fans have never agreed with the appointment and have taken to chanting Mourinho’s name at games and this was in full force on Saturday.

Cech was asked by The Daily Mail if he understood why the fans were chanting for Jose and whether he would he would want the ‘Special one’ to return:

“We had a fantastic success with him, so why not? He is a fantastic manager.” he said.

“Of course, I understand that. Jose Mourinho did a fantastic job for the club and people loved him so he rightly deserved that. This is the way it should be.”

Last week there were also rumours of an argument between the players and manager after Benitez tried to address the issues in their 2-0 defeat against Man City. Benitez hit out at the players and mentioned that the senior ones have too much control and that it affected the way he managed.

The Chelsea players have played under nine different managers in the Abramovich era and have built up a solid dressing room and have a reputation for being very open if they are not happy with a situation and they aren’t afraid to take on the manager if something needs to be said:

“We do it our way, the other clubs do it  their way, and it seems to work so far, so long may it continue.” said Cech.

“You can argue with a lot of things but in the same period of time we won more or less the same number of trophies as Manchester United.

“We had a lot of success thanks to the  honesty and open mind everyone has in the dressing room. Everybody should have a chance to express an opinion, and if the players are not happy in our dressing room, it is not the case that we say unlucky mate, we will carry  on, you pick yourself up.

“No. If someone is not happy we try to help them to be happy again and to be at the top. This is why, when we see something is going wrong, people have the right to say, We think this is wrong, we should improve that, we need to try to find a different solution.

“It is important for the manager to know the feedback. But there is only one boss and that is the manager.”

Mourinho parted ways with Chelsea in 2007, but could make a shock return to Stamford Bridge in the summer as Chelsea search for their 10th manager in 9 years. Mourinho has already said that his next job will be in England and he is most likely to be leaving Real Madrid when the season ends.

Cech was brought to Chelsea by Mourinho and has established himself in the team and is now one of their senior players. He says they are still aiming for a top 4 finish and will give everything they can:

“The club took Rafa Benitez because they  wanted to improve the situation and achieve the  targets we had at the  beginning of the season. He is here to do his best and to help us as much as he can.

“As players, we must do the same: try to win games, work hard, move forward, achieve the targets. As a club, everyone should have the same feeling, no matter how long they’ve been here. We are the Chelsea Football Club and we should be united, the players, the fans, the manager, his coaching staff, the board, everybody to achieve the targets.”
