Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech insists that he will not hand over the number one jersey to Thibaut Courtois without a fight.
Courtois has spent the last two seasons on loan with Spanish side Atletico Madrid, helping Diego Simeone’s side to win the Europa League, Copa Del Rey and European Super Cup.
Cech has also continued to perform as one of the top stoppers in the Premier League, picking up medals in the Champions League, Europa League and the FA Cup in the last two terms.
The 31-year-old revealed that he is not ready to hand over his starting spot at Stamford Bridge and is relishing the challenge of battling away with the Belgium international.
Cech said: “In big clubs you always have competitions for places. Obviously every player wants to keep their spot in the starting line-up and I’m the same. We will see.
“When you start pre-season everybody fights from the same line and you need to do well in the pre-season to persuade your manager that you deserve to be on the pitch for the first game. It’s always up to you and your performances how you persuade the manager that you should play.”
