Nemanja Matic does not see any reason why his Chelsea side cannot compete for, and potentially win, the quadruple this season.
The Serbian midfielder has been one of the Blues’ star names this term, with his only absence from the Londoners’ team – he was suspended – at Newcastle coinciding with the club’s only domestic loss.
A win at Stoke last night means that Chelsea top the table heading into Christmas, while victory last week against Derby County booked a Capital One Cup semi-final double-header with Liverpool.
PSG await Jose Mourinho’s side in the Champions League after they successfully qualified from their group, and the club are among the favourites to lift the FA Cup.
No English side has ever won the quadruple in a single campaign, but Matic believes that this Chelsea side has the “quality” to make it a realistic aim:
“I think it’s (the quadruple) possible – we have a chance. I don’t want to say that we’re going to win it but we’re going to try.” He is quoted by the London Evening Standard.
“We have quality but other teams are also strong and have quality also. But we will try and we will see if we can do it.
“I am confident, I believe in my team, my team-mates, so everything is possible.
“Its always important when you are mentally prepared like we are to win. In this moment we are confident, we are top of the table and we will try to continue like this.”
