Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez has hinted that Yossi Benayoun may be allowed to leave the club this January.
Although he is currently injured, he is believed to be willing to fight for a spot in the Blues’ first-team, but will face much competition in his desired attacking midfield position.
The likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar, Juan Mata, Marko Marin, Victor Moses and Brazilian youngster Lucas Piazon all appear to be above Benayoun in the fight for game time, and Benitez refused to suggest that the former Liverpool star will be able to force his way in to the starting XI:
“He is here now but he’s injured and he’s working with the physios. We will see what happens.” He is quoted by talkSPORT.
“The question is how many players we have – we have six players in these positions.
“He’s a very good player, no doubt about this, but again I would say we have six players in these positions. We have to manage the situation.”
It is thought that Chelsea will allow him to move on a free transfer in a bid to reduce their spending on wages, but is unclear as to whether any Premier League teams are interested.
