Frank Lampard came off the bench to score his 201st Chelsea goal in the win over Swansea, earning high praise from Rafa Benitez.
Lampard replaced the injured Ramires, who had picked up a dead leg, on 24 minutes and he soon turned the game when setting up the opening goal for Oscar before netting a penalty as Chelsea ran out 2-0 winners.
The midfielder still looks to be heading for the exit door when his contract expires in the summer but Benitez had nothing but praise for him following his display against the Swans.
“Frank is a great player,” Benitez said. “I’m really pleased he’s scored another goal and hopefully he can score five between now and the end of the season and he’ll be much happier and we will be the same.”
Benitez also admits Lampard started on the bench with one eye on the Europa League semi-final second leg against Basle at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea will look to build on their 2-1 advantage and book a place in the final.
Benitez added: “He’s a great professional. He’s always really focused.”He would like to play more games, but he understands the main thing is the team and to qualify for the Champions League.
“He wants to play, but he understands the team is first.”
