Jose Mourinho is reportedly set to return to Chelsea in the summer and plans to make Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira his first signing, according to the Express.
Blues interim boss Rafa Benitez is widely expected to leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, sparking yet another manager search.
Mourinho is a crowd favourite in west London having won two Premier League titles, two League Cups and the FA Cup during a glittering three-year spell in charge.
Following his controversial exit in September 2007, amid reports of a rift with owner Roman Abramovich, it appeared unlikely that he would ever return to the Blues dugout.
However, that attitude appears to have softened in recent months, with chairman Bruce Buck revealing on Wednesday he was “open minded” about the possibility of a re-appointment of the Real Madrid boss.
Mourinho himself declared earlier this week that he would consider his future at the Bernabeu in the summer following the club’s failure to retain their La Liga title.
Former Blues striker Didier Drogba added fuel to the fire by declaring Mourinho has “unfinished business” at Stamford Bridge.
Now German paper Bild is suggesting that not only is Mourinho on his way back to the Bridge, but that he is planning on bringing midfielder Sami Khedira with him.
The Germany international says Mourinho is the best coach he has worked with in his career and may jump at the chance to work with him in the Premier League should he make the move back to London.
