On Tuesday we asked Chelsea fans in our poll who they thought the perfect midfield partner was for N'Golo Kante at the heart of the Chelsea midfield: Danny Drinkwater, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Cesc Fabregas, Ross Barkley or David Luiz.

Antonio Conte's 3-4-3 formation that he has preferred this year to the 3-5-2 strategy that won the title last year has meant that there is less space to give everyone the regular playing time they desire - especially with the addition of three new midfielders in the last two transfer windows.

N'Golo Kante has been one of the few mainstays in the side, but with Danny Drinkwater sturdy but disappointing, Tiemoue Bakayoko experiencing a comedown from his Monaco days and Cesc Fabregas now on the wrong side of 30 - there are few dependable options for Conte to slot into the ther midfield spot.

Chelsea fans think the ever-entertaining centre-half David Luiz could be the answer though, with 44% of fans voting for him to partner Kante in the midfield.

The £28m-valued Luiz has missed the middle of the season with a knee injury, but he has experience of playing in the holding midfield position from his first spell at the club and the Brazilian packs a powerful shot on him - which would give Chelsea an added threat in the middle of the park.
