Chelsea have missed out on the Champions League in a season where they were defending the Premier League title for the second time in a row but have the opportunity to end the campaign with some silverware when they take on former manager Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United side at Wembley.
In an era where there are six elite English teams competing for four major trophies and four Champions League spots – five and five if you include the Europa League – the chance to scoop a pot up at the end of the season is not to be sniffed at, even if it may represent something of a parting gift from Antonio Conte, who will surely depart Stamford Bridge regardless at the end of the season.
That’s why we asked Chelsea fans what they would have preferred – top four or the FA Cup – and the result came out very close indeed.
53 per cent of Blues supporters would rather have had top four but no trophy, with a perhaps surprising amount of fans still giving the famous old FA Cup some credence.
