However, the former Real Madrid man struggled under the weight of expectation at Stamford Bridge and some of his performances were reminiscent of Fernando Torres' fitful displays in west London.

Sarri has inherited an attack also containing Michy Batshuayi, World Cup winner Olivier Giroud and hot prospect Tammy Abraham so he may well be tempted to offload Morata after just one season in English football.

That temptation would surely only be heightened if Morata could help Sarri land someone who could be integral to his new Chelsea era and one pressing concern is the goalkeeping situation with the impending departure of Thibaut Courtois.
