A huge majority of Chelsea fans would rather see Alvaro Morata leave the club before Olivier Giroud, despite the comparative investment in both by the club over the last 12 months.
Morata arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer for a reported club record of £60m, on a five-year deal, with hopes high he would be the driving force behind the club’s ambition to build on their 2016/17 English Premier League title win.
Despite initially looking fantastic in a Chelsea shirt, scoring seven goals in his first eight games, his form became more erratic as the season wore on, eventually going through a dire three month spell without netting.
Olivier Giroud arrived in January as a problem solver, for a reported £18m, with not much expected of him apart from being a back-up option or a plan B when things weren’t going so well in a match.
It’s clear though who Chelsea supporters would rather have at the club this summer.
A massive 72% of respondents to a poll we published earlier this week would rather Morata left before Giroud, demonstrating that there is perhaps an expectation that the club go out and sign another star striker in the upcoming transfer window.
