Chelsea’s form, just in case you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, has been staggeringly good.
After alarming losses to Liverpool and Arsenal, Antonio Conte shook things up in the west end of London and the Italian’s Blues have gone on to claim nine wins on the bounce using their 3-4-3 formation, with the 27 points gathered putting them three clear of Arsenal at the top.
So, as the old adage goes, ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’… However, Chelsea fans actually want their boss to tinker with his winning formula ahead of tonight’s trip to relegation-threatened Sunderland.
We quizzed Chelsea followers earlier this week to see if they believed Cesc Fabregas is worthy of a starting berth in the centre of their midfield for the clash against the Black Cats, and 82% of the votes were in favour of the change.
We assume that Nemanja Matic would be the man to make way for the Spanish playmaker who has, to be fair to him, been in fine form when called upon in recent weeks. Indeed, he started the massive win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, in which he set up Diego Costa to score one of Chelsea’s three goals, and played the pass to ‘assist’ the striker as he netted the winner vs. West Brom on Sunday.
There’s no doubt he offers more creativity than his Serbian team-mate, but would it be a risk for Conte to shake things up? Perhaps…
