Since signing from Real Madrid for a then club-record fee of £60m in July 2017, Alvaro Morata’s Chelsea career has not panned out as he would have hoped.
After a bright start to life in the Premier League, the Spain international’s form dropped off dramatically at the halfway point of his first season in England. The January arrival of Olivier Giroud, and Morata’s own dreadful performances saw him eventually lose his starting place at Stamford Bridge to the Frenchman.
Despite already being off the mark for the new campaign, the 6ft 2in Morata still looks a long way from his best. With Giroud ageing and out of contract at the end of the season, the Blues could soon find themselves in need of a new top level striker to fire them back into title contention. If Morata can’t improve quickly, then the 25-year-old may soon find his long-term future with the London club obliterated by the arrival of a big-money star.
With the clock seemingly ticking on his Chelsea career, we asked Blues fans whether they believed Morata could still salvage his career at the Bridge. Only 48% believed that he could. See the full results below.
